The Search for our Personal Truths through Poetry and Poetry Therapy
“Everywhere I go, a poet has been there before me.” Quote by Sigmund Freud
Poetry, Psychodynamic psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis have long been seen as partners in the quest for searching for the truth of our internal worlds. Where do psychoanalysis and poetry merge? How are themes of separation and attachment expressed by poets? Reading and discussion of poetry by Stanley Kunitz, Naomi Shihib Nye, Charles Bukowski and others will be utilized. This will be a workshop that is both didactic as well as experiential. Participants will relate about their own personal truths through reading poetry, participating in discussion and writing excercises.
2 Continuing Education Units available, $50.
